480 bc, 6.5" Tall, Item #V104

This vase depicts the escape of Odysseus from the Cyclop Polyphemus. According to the myth, Odysseus and his comrades were imprisoned in a cave by this Cyclops. Previous attempts to escape had failed and the only survivor, Odysseus, figured out that he could attach himself beneath a ram with a rope and escape because the blind Cyclops could not detect him under the ram’s fleece.
